News Letter 3 - 2002

A blonde just managed to splutter her Cobra into the driveway at Allen's Auto.  She tells Ron, “It just dies”. After Ron works on the carburetor for a few minutes, he has it running smoothly again.

“What’s the story?” she says

“Just crap in the carburetor,” Ron replies.

She looks at Ron with a bewildered expression and says, “How often do I have to do that?”

With that out of the way, we are into the home stretch once again.

The turnout for dinner at Thirsty’s was very encouraging. The venue was great and so was the food and chatter. Of course the manager had forgotten to arrange our tables as requested, which prompted our ‘no nonsense’ committee member André Roodt to get up tight with the manager. The upshot of it was, a free breakfast for all those members inconvenienced. Once again, the turnout was excellent.

Thanks to André and to Thirsty’s Management.

Once again Cars in the Park was one of the highlight of the years activities. I am not sure how many Cobras there were (I can’t count that far) but there were many, and spread out among them, four GT40’s. Bugs Theunissen was showing off his brand new blue GT40 and what a crowd puller it proved to be. I’m threatening to put a buxom babe in my engine compartment next time.

Then, over to the Bring & Braai at the Voice Clinic. While all who attended had a very good time, and we thank André once again, the turnout was disappointing. Maybe it followed too close on the heels of Cars in the Park.  It was a trial run with an afternoon event which we thought would be different (and less costly) and the casual attitude conducive to friendly chatter. So, we will give it another try at a later date.

Now for some more bumper stickers:

  • Caution- Driver legally blonde

  • Horn broken…  watch for finger

  • If you can read this- I’ve lost my trailer

Then there is the sign embroidered on the back of a bikers jacket: If you can read this- the bitch has fallen off.

Now the one I could not attend, and this with the biggest turnout of cars outside of Cars in the Park. Yes, it was the Bring & Braai at Midmar Dam. Fourteen cars, three  of them GT40’s. Bob Richardson joined Bugs Theunissen and Ron Casteller to support the GT40 side. The sight must have been awesome. I have been told that the day was great with brunch at the waters edge. Our new member, Phillip Liquorish, joined in with his bright red Cobra. This is an event that members seem to prefer, so the committee will keep this in mind.

Now for the ladies:

  • A Woman’s Rule of Thumb: If it has wheels or testicles, you’re going to have trouble with it.

  • Grow Your Own Dope – Plant a Man.

  • Wanted: A meaningful overnight relationship

Or was that one for the guys? Try these:

  • Beer: It’s not just for breakfast anymore!

  • Necrophilia: That uncontrollable Urge to Crack Open a Cold One (How was that one Allan?)

By the time you get to read this, some of our lucky (or devious) members will be burning the years savings on a trip to Drag at Tarltons. This should be very good as we as a group have not been up to the Highveld for some time and we are including a visit to Cobra Valley where the all new Cobra is being designed and built.

I have been informed that this Cobra will be the best in the world with full racing suspension and fully built up – NO KITS.

I will report back at the Cutty Sark breakfast run on 28 July.

Yes guys, don’t forget, we want the best turnout of all time.

Meet at the Hyperama Prospecton at 08h30 on Sunday 28 July for a breakfast run to the Cutty Sark Hotel. This gives us time to get back for the TV screening of the German F1 race.

We have been informed that “NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED”

The second last event planned for the club is a splendid lunch at Hillbillies Restaurant Port Shepstone.  We meet at 09h00 Sunday 17 November at the Hyperama Prospecton. We have been to this venue before and it proved to be one to visit once more. Contact André for details.

Our final event for the year is of course the XMAS DINNER. This year we will boogie (yes, I mean boogie – come show you can still do it) at the Oyster Box Hotel Umhlanga Rocks. This takes place at 20h00 Saturday 30 November and tickets cost R110 per couple for members and R85 each for friends. We will have a live band and three course meal included.

Those members who would like to stay over for the night may do so for – double room with breakfast at R250 per person sharing less a club discount of 15% plus a government room levy of R3.42 per room. If you would like to stay over please make your own arrangements mentioning that you are a club member. Call 031 5612233/8. You will however have to make a booking for the dinner with Nick Carter. You may pay him in person or transfer the money into our club account, ABSA PINETOWN 505 626 Account for COBRA GT40 CLUB of KWAZULU NATAL No. 9054401136. Please make sure a deposit is made with some identification.

This also serves as an invitation to the ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING of the COBRA GT40 CLUB of KWAZULU NATAL to be held on SATURDAY 18 JANUARY 2003. We are planning a different type of event to attract more members and their families to attend as there are some very important things to discuss. The details of the AGM will be relayed to you by Doug Wishart timeously.

Having said all that, I can only add the following: He who hesitates is not only lost, but miles from the next exit.

And another couple of bumper stickers:

  • Honk if you’ve never seen an Uzi fired from a car window.

  • Cover me, I’m changing lanes

  • Remember, traffic lights timed for 60Km/h are also timed for 120, 180 or 240.

  • On a Cobra:  Driver, cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

If I don’t see you through the week, I’ll see you through the windscreen.

Cheers my Chinas,

Drive safely,

Vic Wait     4 July 2002
