Kirkham Aluminium Bodied Cobra's

[Extracts from:   Kirkham Motorsports Brochure]

A Cobra built by Aerospace Engineers!

Kirkham Motorsports began after a relative bought a Polish fighter jet.  At the time the Kirkham’s were restoring their own Cobra (CSX3104).  The similarities between the plane and the car were striking, and this resulting in contact being established with the manufacturer. Asked if they could manufacture an aluminium bodied car, they replied within 12 hours “No problem!”.

The enormous Polish factory has produced aircraft for more than 60 years, but since the end of the Cold War the factory was silent - with thousands of idle machines. This was some years ago; today David Kirkham speaks fluent Polish and builds the most accurate replicas available anywhere in the world!

Kirkham believes that using aluminium for the bodies was an obvious choice – after all “you’re buying a sports car, not a dune buggy”.  The aluminium body panels are beaten by hand over tools created from a master body buck, then both the tool and the panel are placed into an enormous press where the panels are given their final shape. All the housings and components are cast or forged using only the highest quality raw materials (fit for a jet fighter).

Kirkham Motorsports is so confident of the accuracy of the cars that even original Cobra owners cannot tell the difference. Kirkham followed one simple rule when setting out to recreate this legendary Cobra – If  it doesn’t belong on an original, it doesn’t belong on our car!  So a big block Chevy is NOT an option!
